Munich

Munich:

July 3rd-Day 3-City 2

We woke up early in Frankfurt and ate breakfast before heading out to the train station. We learned how to use our Eurorail passes and successfully made it on the first of many train rides starting with Munich.

Our hostel was all decked out in deer heads and techno paint and you know we were in Germany when you have to pay to use a towel but receive a free welcome shot at the bar. We grabbed a map with the top 16 buildings to see in the city and took the metro to go see most of them. We got free metro travel on the same day we used our euro rails in every city, but Venice and Paris, and we thoroughly took advantage of this perk.Though the only problem was we didn't know anything about the buildings besides their names and that they were important enough to make the map, in the end we just took lots of pictures.

For Taylor we ate pretzels and beer for lunch at the Hofbrauhous. All three of us split an entire liter of beer then we went back for a nap. I was a little grumpy because we have tended to spend a lot of time sleeping and not a lot of time doing but I decided that I should enjoy the time we have to rest when we did. Looking back now those naps were glorious and we did as much as we could in each city. We ate dinner at a cute pizza shop and figured out what we were going to do the next day.

July 4th-Day 4

We woke up early and made our way to the train station to meet our castle tour guide. It's nice being a student and a Eurorail pass holder because we got a really good discount. We bought sandwiches to picnic with for lunch and boarded the two hour train to Fussen. The castle tour was beautiful and though we didn't pay the extra €12 to go inside we were able to see the entire exterior and our guide took us down the famous bridge and next to a waterfall.

I'm so glad we decided to go on the tour instead of going by our selves because we met 5 really cool people. Two girls, Rachel and Charlotte, from whales who also happened to be in the same hostel as us, two guys from New Mexico Bryce, who is studying at the Academy and Adam, and a guy from Seattle, James, who just finished school in New York. The train ride home was much faster since we met so many people to talk with. Once we arrived at the train station we all agreed to meet up for dinner an hour later, the girls showered up and Taylor and I napped.

I haven't quite gotten used to the late eating times here. We met up along with a new group member Addison, who will forever be known as creeper man, and decided to celebrate our American roots on the 4th of July. We wandered around town for a bit an decided it can't get anymore American than hard rock cafe Munich. Abbey and I split a burger and tried lemonade beer. Which has historical roots in WWII since the soldiers would dilute their beer with lemonade so they could drink as much in the shortage but not get as drunk. Bryce and Adam had to eat and dash in attempt to make an eleven o'clock train, yet they missed it by 5 minutes.

I sat through dinner watching Addison's attempts to hit on all the other girls. Thank goodness for Taylor i got left out of the getting hit on. Charlotte, also taken, just took the liberty of messing with Addison. The rest of us finished dinner and decided to take our welcome shots at the hostel. We didn't make it that far though because Abbey was intercepted by a group of Spanish guys trying harder than Addison was to hit on her. Eventually we took our shots of fruity vodka stuff, I actually really liked it which is probably not a good sign. Bryce and Adam made their way back to our hostel and prepared for an all night-er of clubbing to wait for the next train. They took everyone but the three of us with them. We on the other hand called it a night and went and packed up.

July 5th-Day 5
We woke up and checked out then stored our stuff in the train station before heading to Dachu concentration camp. We did an audio guide tour around the camp. A lot of the buildings were reconstructed but it was still very interesting and extremely somber. I'm glad we did it even if it all was a bit heavy to take in. My hunger was subsided when I saw all the pictures and bunkers first hand. We made our way back and got some lunch on our way to our train to Salzburg. There was the cutest little boy that made for most of our entertainment on the train.
