Frankfurt

Frankfurt:

July 1st- Day 1-City 1

Taylor, Abbey and I arrived in Frankfurt on July 1st. After waiting for two flights in Denver we ran through the airport like those people you normally laugh at to try to make our connection. Abbey should have more seniority then Taylor or I but something was wrong with her reservation and a crazy gate agent wouldn't let her on the plane. Needless to say Abbey demanded Taylor and I get off that plane and we went to the next gate to try again. Abbey still had issues with her reservation so instead Taylor got bumped up to business while Abbey and I were in economy. Taylor was like a kid in a candy store!  I got a bit of sleep on the plane but i always found the most awkward positions. Word of advice putting your legs up on the tray table may seem like a great idea until they fall asleep and start twitching uncontrollably.

Once we got to the airport we went to the travel information center where we booked our reservations for the trains and made our way to the hostel. The lady let us store our luggage in a room but forgot to give us numbers which made retrieving them later a bit more difficult. We walked around the town and saw the river, the lock bridge and went to about ten minutes of mass at the Gothic cathedral. We got sandwiches at a little bakery for relatively cheap. And since we hit the ground running that morning we went back for a much deserved siesta in the hostel before dinner. We ate weinersnitchel and got beer in order to embrace our German surroundings. Then watched the Italy Spain futbol match in the hostel lobby before bed. Go Espana!

July 2nd-Day 2-City

We woke up for breakfast at the hostel (which soon became a much missed privilege, as with towels and sheets). There isn't a bunch of tourist-y things to do in Frankfurt so we went to the Palmart Gartens which turned out to be really pretty. By the lake Abbey got hissed at by a swan and soon "are you swanning at me?" became an expression of the trip any time we crossed each others paths a little too close.

We got "German hot dogs" at a local cafe and took another siesta. We then went on the metro in search of cider taverns and apple wine. Taylor was convinced we would like it better than beer. We found the one tavern with a grumpy German lady who obviously thought we were dumb when we asked for apple cider instead of apple wine. The hostel offered a free pasta dinner and free being a students favorite word we signed up immediately and used our saved cash toward ice cream.  Before bed we played some cards in the reception, got mistaken for Spaniards, and  listened to a guy jam on his guitar.
